Cave Crickets
At all Seasons Pest Control when we get calls about insects from the Rhaphidophorinae sub family, most of our customers refer to them as Cave Crickets, but elsewhere in the country they are known as Camel Crickets or Spider Crickets.
These strange looking insects have a cricket-like body and, spider-like legs. Their long legs allow them to jump rather high and they can be rather startling when found jumping around your basement or worse, your bathroom.
Cave Crickets are a nuisance in buildings and homes. Cave Crickets are usually “accidental invaders” that wander in by mistake from adjacent areas. These pests thrive in continuously dark, moist conditions, such as a basement, shower or laundry rooms.
Fortunately these insects generally don’t bite, and aren’t known to spread disease. However, it is important to treat them in a timely manner as they are an attractive food source for mice and if left untreated can lead to a rodent infestation.
