The tell tale sign of the carpenter bees is the perfect 3/8” hole made by the female when she makes a nest to lay her eggs. These are usually found in damp or untreated wood on decks, or on the untreated sides of fascia boards.
The great news about carpenter bees is that they don’t sting, but they do cause damage to our homes. While the holes themselves are small the bees bore length wise through the length of the wood hollowing a large void for their eggs and larva. Carpenter bee eggs and large are a food source for wood peckers. This creates an additional potential for damage as these birds will enlarge the holes made by carpenter bees in order to gain access to the nest.
